Who We Are
Abaka, having grown up in Kariobangi, understands the hardships and challenges of growing up in the slums. He was fortunate enough to have been introduced to boxing, while living in Kariobangi, which he used as a means to get out of the slums, keep out of trouble, become disciplined and eventually land a career with the Kenyan military.

We are happy for our achievement

KING ABAKA BOXING FOUNDATION PROGRAMS
After School Boxing Club (Champions Club):
From 4:00pm to 6:00p.m, when school ends, young children are often left alone and bored, and at this time are often lured into unhealthy, wasteful and criminal pursuits. After-school/out-of-school programs are a proven crime prevention method which can keep children safe during the unstructured hours of 4:00pm to 6:00 pm. Through this program we aim to ease the minds of working parents and provide healthy alternatives for youths’ attention and energy. Through our boxing club we will help prepare youth for their future.
We use a Student led model of teaching where we fully engage with school going pupils through after school boxing clubs. The boxing club will be held in school halls/fields and appointed student club officials are responsible for safely storing and cleaning of the boxing equipment and resources.
Our model focuses on children between the ages of 9-17 years of age that are attending the schools that we are targeting. This will ensure that children continue attending classes and performing well in their exams. We will work with appointed teachers in each school (including both male and female teachers) to encourage inclusivity.
Our target is to have at least 30-50 students from each school that we are proposing to work with. We are passionate about gender inclusion and therefore aim to ensure that at least 30-40% of club attendees are young girls. We aim to create a safe and inclusive environment for our club members and we believe that through our model will be able to meet the Sustainable Development Goal 11 to ‘make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable’, with a target that directly contributes to addressing women and girls’ safety in public spaces. We will have a female boxing coach to provide self-defense lessons as a way of reducing violence against girls in addition to shedding a like on alternative careers for young girls.
We believe that through boxing, we will develop discipline and commitment to success in club members and will provide them with life skills that they will utilize in the future. We also believe in providing mentorship to the youth in the slums through our after school boxing club program. We will walk with our club members through their education as well as social welfare and ensure that former program participants are required to return as alumni’s to their former schools and fully support our after school program for a minimum of 1 year. By using this approach, we are confident that our program will be sustainable.

Goals and Objectives of King Abaka Boxing Foundation after school clubs:

- To improve the academic, social and emotional learning, and health outcomes of youth that are not a focus during the standard school day.
- To provide mentorship to club members by organizing open days/mentorship classes/talks from successful people in alternative and traditional careers alike such as Boxers, Military, Singers, Artists, Doctors, Health practitioners etc.
